On August 20, 2016, City of Vallejo Police Officers conducted a six-hour long DUI and driver’s license checkpoint.  The checkpoint was held at the intersection of Sonoma Boulevard and Solano Avenue.  At the conclusion of the California Office of Traffic Safety funded drunk driving enforcement the Vallejo Police Department had arrested three drivers for suspicion of drunk driving.

The Vallejo Police Officers also reported that fifteen vehicles were impounded after drivers were found to have been driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license.  Driving with a suspended license can result in probation, fines and possible jail time depending on why the persons license is suspended and whether he or she can clear the suspension and obtain a clear license.  A DUI and driver’s license suspension attorney can often get suspended license charges reduced if the driver can get their license.

On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, a 76 year old driver was booked for felony hit-and-run and felony driving under the influence,  after he allegedly hit a CHP officer as she stood in the road directing traffic.  The driver then fled the scene.  The CHP officer suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by helicopter to the hospital.

Responding CHP officers observed the driver, based on license plate information they had received from a tow truck driver, and pulled him over.  It was later determined that he was suspected of driving under the influence and he was arrested for DUI and hit and run.  The driver was apprehended several miles north of the hit-and-run collision location.

Many traffic tickets in California are classified as moving violations and carry points on a person’s driving record. Accruing too many points, 4 in 12 months, 6 in 24 months, or 8 in 36 months will result in the DMV designating a person a negligent operator which carries a driver’s license suspension.

Moving violations also effect insurance rates for up to 3 years.

An experienced traffic ticket defense attorney can work to get tickets dismissed or reduced to charges that do not carry DMV points.
